What are Permanent and Semi-Permanent Eyeliner Tattoos?

Permanent and semi-permanent eyeliner tattoos are innovative cosmetic procedures that offer long-lasting solutions for achieving perfectly defined and enhanced eyes. Let's delve into the details of each technique:

Permanent Eyeliner Tattoo

Also known as traditional or permanent makeup, this technique involves implanting pigment into the skin using a tattooing technique. This technique uses a machine or handheld tool with fine needles to deposit colour along the lash line. The pigment is embedded into the dermal layer of the skin, resulting in long-lasting eyeliner.

With permanent eyeliner, you can enjoy the convenience of waking up with beautifully defined eyes. It eliminates the need for daily application and ensures your eyeliner stays intact, even while swimming or exercising. However, it's important to note that the results are permanent and can be challenging to alter or remove if your preferences change over time.

Semi-Permanent Eyeliner Tattoo

This is a more flexible alternative to permanent makeup as the technique involves depositing pigment into the upper layers of the skin, typically the epidermis. The procedure uses similar tattooing methods as permanent eyeliner but targets a shallower depth, resulting in a more temporary effect.

Semi-permanent eyeliner offers the advantage of longevity, typically lasting anywhere from one to three years. It allows you to experiment with different eyeliner styles and adjust the intensity or shape as desired. This flexibility particularly appeals to individuals who prefer to change their makeup looks or adapt to evolving trends.

Before deciding between permanent and semi-permanent eyeliner tattoos, it's essential to consult with a professional to understand your options and make an informed choice. At VK Brows, our artist, Valerie, can guide you through the process, assess your needs, and recommend the most suitable technique to achieve your desired results.

Natural Permanent Eyeliner Before and After Care

We understand that achieving flawless eyeliner through tattooing requires not only skilled artistry but also proper care before and after the procedure. To ensure optimal results and a smooth healing process, we provide comprehensive instructions to guide you through the pre-procedure and aftercare phases.

Pre-Procedure Instructions:

  • Have a meal before your appointment. It ensures stable blood sugar levels during the procedure.
  • Avoid eye makeup before the tattooing process.
  • Steer clear of alcohol 24 hours before your appointment. Alcohol can thin the blood and increase the risk of skin sensitivity, bleeding, and bruising.
  • Be cautious with medications. For 72 hours prior to your appointment, avoid blood-thinning medications like ibuprofen, aspirin, and fish oil tablets.
  • Remove eyelash extensions at least three days before the tattoo eyeliner
  • Discontinue eyelash growth serums 3-6 months before the treatment as these products can cause increased sensitivity.
  • Remove contact lenses before the procedure and refrain from wearing them for at least two hours afterwards. It is advisable to bring glasses for the journey home or arrange transportation.

Aftercare Instructions:

It is normal to experience swelling and bruising after the procedure. Applying an ice pack to the area can provide relief. However, avoid using aftercare cream until the following morning to allow the wound to close naturally. Afterwards, apply a thin layer of aftercare ointment in the morning and evening for seven days.

Important Reminders:

  • Don't wear contact lenses for at least 2 hours after the treatment.
  • Try to keep your tattoo as dry as possible for the first seven days.
  • Do not use mascara for the first week. When you resume using it, make sure you purchase a new one.
  • Avoid hot, sweaty exercise and long, hot showers for the first seven days.
  • Do not sleep on your face for the first seven days.
  • Wait at least 3 to 4 weeks before you start applying eyelash extensions.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 3 – 4 weeks
  • Do not rub, pick, or scratch the treated area and let any scabbing or dry skin exfoliate away naturally. Picking can cause scarring or loss of colour.
  • Limit your showers to 5 minutes to not create too much steam. Keep your face out of the water as best as you.

Types of Eyeliner Tattoos

Here are some of the most preferred eyeliner tattoo styles that you can choose:

  1. Classic Eyeliner Tattoo : Our classic eyeliner tattoo technique involves delicately drawing a thin line along the upper lash line, accentuating the eyes. This timeless style enhances the natural shape of your eyes without any additional flair or dramatic effects. We use high-quality products such as pencils, liquid, and gel liners to achieve a clean and precise line.
  2. Winged Eyeliner : This technique extends the classic eyeliner beyond the outer corner of the eye, creating an elegant winged shape. The line starts thin at the inner corner and gradually thickens towards the outer corner. This results in a stunning flick that uplifts your eyes with glamour.
  3. Smokey Eyeliner : Using soft and smudgeable formulas like pencils, we expertly apply eyeliner along the upper and lower lash lines. We then blend and smudge it precisely to create a soft, smoky effect. This is perfect for special occasions or a night out as it exudes drama and allure.
  4. Bottom Lash Eyeliner : This technique defines and enhances the lower lash line. It highlights your lower lashes by providing a polished and balanced look. Whether you prefer a subtle line or a smudged effect, we cater to your desired style.
  5. Combination Eyeliner Tattoo : It combines multiple eyeliner styles to achieve unique and customised results. This includes classic, winged, smokey, or bottom lash liner. Our skilled artist uses different liner blending techniques to create a cohesive – this personalised eyeliner design will reflect your individuality.
